Erb's Palsy
What is Erb's Palsy?
Erb's Palsy is a condition that can occur during the birth
process, resulting in an injury to the brachial plexus nerves
that control the muscles in the shoulder, arm, and hand. The
brachial plexus consists of nerves running from the spine,
through the shoulder, and on to the tips of the fingers. The
signals sent through these nerves cause the arm and hand muscles
to move. A child with Erb's palsy will have difficulty in
using his or her hand and arm in a normal way. An inability
to grasp and loss of muscle tone and control may also occur.
Very often this condition is the result of excessive lateral
traction applied to the child's arm, neck and shoulder during
labor and delivery process.
Erb's Palsy Lawsuits
Childbirth is a complicated process, requiring a high level
of care from the physician for the infant. Erb's palsy, which
is often caused by birth trauma, is an injury that is largely
preventable due to modern medical technology and technique.
Many families who have children with Erb's palsy do not have
the resources for the therapy and care that the child will
require. We are experienced in prosecuting cases on behalf
of children injured during the birth process as a result of
medical malpractice. If your child's condition was caused
by medical malpractice, we will work to protect your child's
legal rights so that you and your child will have the financial
resources necessary to pay for the care needed for the duration
of your child's life.
